About IAASA

IAASA inspects the quality of audit work performed by auditors and sustainability assurance service providers for Public Interest Entities (‘PIEs’). AQS conducts these inspections through an annual quality assurance review of each relevant PIE firm.

A quality assurance review involves:

  • assessing the firm’s quality control system design
  • checking compliance with the firm’s procedures
  • evaluating the quality of a sample of audits and assurance of PIEs

We publish the results of these reviews annually, in separate reports for each PIE firm, available on the IAASA website. Where relevant, reports contain recommendations that the PIE firm must implement within 12 months.

In addition to quality assurance reviews, AQS also conducts:

  • Joint inspections with overseas regulators
  • Thematic reviews on topical audit and assurance matters
  • Training and other reporting & consulting with other audit regulators
